Course Directors/Instructors
Dr. Rachel Monteiro
Dr. Rachel Monteiro has been an Assistant Professor of Endodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine since 2019. She earned her dental degree (2007). Master's (2011), and PhD (2015) degree in Endodontics from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and residency in Endodontics (2009) from São Leopoldo Mandic in Brazil, and after shifting gears and moving to the US, Dr. Monteiro revalidated her DMD at Tufts University (2024). Dr. Monteiro is actively involved in preclinical and clinical teaching at both the predoctoral and residency levels and has published in peer-reviewed journals, with a strong focus on endodontic diagnosis and pain control. Dr. Monteiro is known for her hands- on, clinically focused teaching style that emphasizes predictable, evidence-based techniques directly applicable to daily practice.
Dr. Igor Bastos
Dr. Igor Bastos earned his dental degree and has built a strong academic and clinical career in Endodontics. He is a Specialist and holds a Master's degree in Endodontics, and he completed his PhD in Dentistry at Fluminense Federal University (UFF). He serves as the Coordinator of of the Carioca Endodontics Team, leading Endodontics specialty training programs. Dr. Bastos is the President of the International Congress "Endodontics in Focus" and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Dentistry (Chair 83). He also serves as a Counselor of the Regional Council of Dentistry of Rio de Janeiro (CRO- RJ). He has maintained a private practice since 2003.
